A brief history of RockTape education

We have a busy three day teaching event in London next week and it got us thinking about how it all started.

RockTape (Kinesiology Taping)

RockTape Kinesiology Taping education was launched in the USA by Chiropractor Dr Steven Capobianco and Greg Vanden Dries in 2010. RockTape education was then established in the UK in 2012 where it quickly became the most popular CPD course in the country for several years. Since the beginning the course has been updated numerous times and is now available as a level one and level two advanced course. Many universities and teaching schools now include some RockTape training as part of their course. These include Middlesex University, University of East London and Bath University.

What’s changed?  Well in those early days of teaching there was less research available so the course was structured around broader concepts such as fascial chains and biotensegrity. More recent iterations of the course take advantage of the specific research into the use of tape for certain pathologies. The courses are now even more helpful for your typical clinical day.

RockBlades (IASTM)

The ‘tools’ course launched in the UK in 2017. Our aim was to present a more neuro-centric way of applying IASTM compared to other education courses and ultimately offer a more patient friendly experience. We were not sure how popular this course would be when compared to taping. To this date the RockBlades courses continue to fill around the UK. One of the reasons many practitioners join us is to learn manual techniques with tools to help reduce hand fatigue. RockBlades was updated last year to offer more prescriptive applications for immediate clinical use.

RockPods (Dry Cupping)

Launching in the UK in 2018 we were excited to offer a novel way to use silicone RockPods to improve movement and reduce pain. The techniques we introduced were seen as unusual by traditional cupping therapists and certainly broke the mould. We now offer a blended course of dry cupping and RockPods using a hybrid syllabus based on our education directors published Clinical Cupping Book (included with the course).
