It’s all about the journey (why has this realization taken me so long to reach?!).

Catching up with RockStar Running Squirrel Jo Meek

Jo has been a RockTape ambassador for many years, having used our products to cross deserts and traverse mountain peaks as well as presenting at Therapy Expo in front of hundreds of therapists.

As both an Ultra distance runner and Physio we were keen to catch up with Jo for an update from the infamous @running_squirrel

Based on running pace and frequency you cannot really ‘catch up’ with Jo unless you have a motorized vehicle…or email!

Hey Jo, would you be so kind as to introduce yourself?

My name is Jo Meek. I love running and have been a runner for a long time now. I ultimately race competitively on the road, trails, in the mountains and once in the desert! (2nd female in Marathon des Sables). I’ve raced for GB and have competed around the World. I’ve now got to the age where I realise what a privilege it is to be able to run and appreciate now it’s my way of life, so try to balance competing with enjoyment understanding it’s all about the journey (why has this realization taken me so long to reach?!).

Can you tell us about your job?

I love my job. I work as a musculoskeletal and sports physio in Devon and also for the UK Sport Institute where I get to treat full time athletes. Day to day I manage work and training which is always a juggling act but easier now I’m self-employed; the two fit together well on the whole.

How about your training, any secret methods?

I incorporate lots of strength work into my week so I don’t have to listen to my own rehab advice!!  I mix it up; I lift heavy, I use my body weight and I do a Yoga session once a week to try and balance body and mind!

…and your best bit of advice?

My advice to anyone, and especially any runner, is to keep strong! Also, if you’ve had a niggle for 3 weeks or longer, it’s an injury! Get some professional advice; Injuries are easier to treat the less time you’ve had them. I love treating other runners and being part of their journey whatever their goals.

How did your 2024 season go?

I had a big year in 2024 –

  • Boston marathon- 2hrs 59 mins 58 secs!
  • Western states in California 100 mile race- sub 24hr finish
  • First female in the Welsh Dragons Back 6 day stage race covering 380km and 16400m of vertical up.

This year I will enter the World Masters Mountain Running Champs in August.

Any comments about RockTape?

I love being a Rock Doc ambassador as I use the tape professionally and personally. It sticks so well, and doesn’t just ‘patch’ you up, it reinforces movement and that can only be a positive thing. Now to tape up those ankles  and head up into the hills!

Thanks for the Update, Photos and Video Jo

Wishing you every success both on and off the road this year!
